The weekend ignited the famous Hollywood versus Bollywood war yet again. And going by the report card, one can safely say that Man of Steel knocked the Hindi releases out of the ticket windows this weekend
With two Hindi films releasing without a promising star cast the weekend heavily tilted in the favour of the Hollywood flick, Man of Steel. As opposed to Christopher Nolan’s production, the Hindi movies – both Fukrey and Ankur Arora Murder Case started on a lowly note at the box office.
While Man Of Steel enjoyed 60 percent to 70 percent occupancy across the country in the opening weekend, Fukrey barely managed to get 30 percent seats. Ankur Arora Murder Case – a small budget film starring Kay Kay Menon, Tisca Chopra and Paoli Dam – though a captivating story, hardly failed to get audiences to the theaters. In fact, AAMC collected meager Rs 1 crore in the first three day of its release.
Monetarily speaking, Fukrey too could not quite live up to the hype it created. Backed by the powerful Excel Entertainment, it netted only Rs 9.50 crore in the first three days. The first day opening was very low as most moviegoers still preferred the two week-old Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. And in spite of good reviews, it collected only Rs 2.52 crores on the opening day. But slowly the earnings picked up even if only marginally. Fukrey went on to bag Rs 3.10 crores on Saturday and Rs 4 crores on Sunday. Farhan Akhtar’s close friend Shahrukh Khan liked the movie and Tweeted, ‘Mrigh ( Mrighdeep Lamba),way to go. Transported me bak to Delhi days. Varun,Pulkit,Manjot,Ali,Pankaj, Richa & all of Fukrey, thanx. Screen mein ‘chedh ho gaya.’
But the star performer this weekend was Man Of Steel. Director Zack Snyder’s superman collected $ 125 million at the box office globally and numbers suggest that it is going great guns at the Indian collection centers too!
