With not so promising Bollywood movies releasing this weekend, it was Hollywood that saved the day at the domestic BO!
Cinegoers were in for a disappointment this weekend as not so interesting looking movies – Preity Zinta’s Ishkq In Paris, Veena Malik’s Zindagi 50-50 and Adah Sharma’s Hum Hai Rahi Car Ke to be more precise – hit the silver screen and tanked without a trace. With PZ making a comeback after three long years, it was clear that her diminishing fan base was not going to help the actor save her sagging career unless there was a big hero alongside her. But here, neither was the hero an A-list star nor was the story radically different in terms of its screenplay or treatment. And as expected, the mushy saga managed to bag in just Rs 1.25 crores at the box office in the opening weekend. The other two Bollywood flicks too bombed at the BO.
It might have been a colossal loss for B-town but it was a huge gain for Hollywood as the much awaited Fast & Furious 6 received a noteworthy welcome at the collection centers. Released in 1,200 screens across India, the Vin Diesel movie raced ahead and netted Rs 21.55 crores over the weekend. All in all, a brutally cold weekend for Hindi cinema!
