Both Sholay 3D and Mr Joe B Carvalho have failed to get cash registers ringing. However, the former has managed to a decent job at the box office than the latter one
The first two releases of 2014 – Sholay 3D and Mr Joe B Carvalho had a very thanda opening weekend. But the 3D version of Ramesh Sippy’s blockbuster did better at the ticket windows than the Arshad Warsi and Soha Ali Khan starrer. While on the first day Sholay 3D earned Rs 1.50 crore and Mr Joe B Carvalho on the other hand raked in only Rs 65 lakh. According to Boxofficeindia, “Mr. Jo B Carvalho opened to a dull response all over with collections of around 10 percent and was beaten by the re run of Sholay which collected more despite being on less screens and a film which is 38 years old.” Even on the weekend, Sholay 3D performed better than Arshad and Soha’s film which couldn’t attract the audience.
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “ Mr Joe Bhi Carvalho Fri 65 lacs, Sat 60 lacs, Sun 75 lacs. Total: 2cr nett. India biz only.” He also posted, “Sholay 3D Fri 1.50 cr, Sat 2.25 cr, Sun 2.55 cr. Total – 6.30 cr nett. India biz only.”
Also, Aamir Khan’s Dhoom:3 is still going steady at the box office which is why wethinks Mr Joe B Carvalho couldn’t do much at the ticket windows. With Dedh Ishqiya and Yaariyan set to hit the theaters this week, we won’t be surprised to see Arshad’s comic drama out of cinema halls.
