B-town mourns Asha Bhosle’s loss

Condolences pour in over Twitter and news for Asha Bhosle condoling daughter Varsha Bhosle’s shocking suicide

The shocking and untimely death of Asha Bhosle’s daughter Varsha Bhosle elicited a wave of condolences from Bollywood as everyone who could came to wish their friend and colleague in her hour of grief.

Singer Sonu Nigam tweeted on Monday, “Woke up with the unfortunate news of d demise of Varsha Bhonsle.. I remember 1996 USA tour wth d Great Ashaji, where I met Varsha 4 d first time” (sic). He later said, “Varshaji appeard 2 b a very strng woman. But only God knows what actually goes inside every human being. May her soul rest in peace.” Sonu was also was also trying to get in touch with Asha but was unable to so, as he tweeted, “All of us, including sm other colleagues are cautious not to suddenly intrude upon d family cuz this is hardly a normal demise. Been trying every1 in their house since 8 am.”(sic)

Director Farah Khan too took to Twitter, “Can’t even imagine what ashaji must b going thru..what a terrible terrible tragedy.” (sic) she tweeted. Besides the thousands of fans and well wishers who joined in Asha’s grief, her colleagues and fellow singers too expressed shock and sorrow. Singer Kavita Krishnamurthy said in an interview, “We were shocked to hear this. I don’t know what to say, because this is really a very traumatic moment for the family. My condolences with Ashaji, and I’m so sorry because it was such a waste of a wonderful life. I know she (Varsha) was a very talented singer and writer.” Usha Uthup appeared to be taken aback. “I am in shock. Dear Ashaji. We all stand by you in this hour of grief. There is nothing in this world that could give solace for a loss like this. I am so sad for her. Sad beyond words, because the loss of a child is the worst thing to happen to anybody,” said the singer.

The last rites of Varsha were performed on Tuesday morning at the Chandanwadi crematorium in Marine Lines. May her troubled soul be at rest. And our many condolences to Ashaji and her family.
