Can Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane change Bollywood with Phantom?

For the very first time, a group of successful directors has plans to make films that defy the norm. But in an industry driven by stars and the crores pumped in by corporate houses, we aren’t sure how much difference they can make…

Four directors who have earned a distinct reputation with their films – Dev.D, Udaan, Chillar Party and Ghajini – have come together to form a production house; the announcement of the launch had many in B-town all excited. The collaboration happened because they are looking to produce content-based films, nurture young talent and give each other creative freedom and support, all for the sake of creating the cinema that they love. All of them have worked really hard to get where they are today and are extremely proud that they found such an opportunity. Through their production house that they have named ‘Phantom’, they want to bring about a quantum change in the way the industry functions and hope to bring in talent that they believe in. Anurag Kashyap (Dev.D), Vikramaditya Motwane (Udaan), Vikas Bahl (Chillar Party) and Madhu Mantena (Ghajini) announced their first film, Lootera, to be directed by Motwane, starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha. It is a love story set in the 1950s and Motwane insists that it’s a commercial project. Talking about this collaboration, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap said, “For filmmakers like us, it was a long struggle in the industry to do the kind of films we wanted. We will nurture new talent and this would be possible with all of us coming together.” Wethinks it’s an interesting marriage of like minds, but are not how sure how successful it will be, especially considering the fact that creative people are not very good when it comes to money matters. Any which way, we wish them all good luck and wait to see what they come up with…
