2017 Pongal is going to be grand and we can tell you why – There’s Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Bairavaa, Vijay Sethupati’s Puriyaatha Puthir, Koditta Idangalai Nirappuga starring Shantanu and Parvathy Nair and most importantly – Chiranjeevi‘s Khaidi no 150 and Nandamuri Balakrishna‘s Gautamiputra Satakarni. Last year the biggest news was Chiranjeevi’s comeback to the big screen after 9 years. To add to it, it was his 150th project in his film career. The movie is being produced by Ram Charan and is directed by VV Vinayak. The film is reportedly a remake of the Tamil movie Kaththi. Chiranjeevi will star opposite Kajal Aggarwal for the first time in this Sankranthi release. The movie is set to hit theatres on January 11, 2017. Releasing a day later is an equally ambitious project Gautamiputra Satakarni starring Nandamuri Balakrishna. The movie will see the Telugu star take on an unusual royal character. Starring opposite him as Queen Vashishta Devi is Shriya Saran. The two will share screen space for the first time. The movie will also star Hema Malini. The movie’s rich visuals has got everyone excited! Although at certain instances it reminds people of Baahubali, fans are excited nonetheless about this larger than life historical drama. But ever since everyone knew that these two stalwarts from the industry would have simultaneous releases, a war between fans was anticipated. Considering both stars boast of a huge fan base, and that fans down south are known to be extreme, a tussle between them wasn’t exactly going to be a surprise. But an unexpected surprise awaited us. Two big films coming during a season like this is normal. My movie (Nayak) and Mahesh’s movie (SVSC) released for Sankranti in the past and both of them did pretty well. I wish Krish and Balayya garu also all the best.” Clearly, these veterans are showing Tollywood how to handle a clash.
