Chitrangda Singh wants to replay Rekha’s feminist Umrao Jaan!

The beautiful actor would love to reprise Rekha’s iconic role and play a courtesan in a remake of the ’80s classic

Women-centric films, albeit with a good storyline, are a sure hit for today’s times. The Rani Mukerji-Vidya-Balan-starrer No One Killed Jessica paved the way for others like The Dirty Picture, Kahaani and the recently released Sridevi-starrer English Vinglish.

The current crop of female actors seems to have realised that too, which is why the sprightly beauty Chitrangda Singh wants to star in one of these. Not only that, she has also zeroed in on which film that would be.

In a recent interview Chitrangda expressed her desire to reprise Rekha’s role as Umrao Jaan in the film by the same name. According to her, Umrao Jaan’s nautch dancing character was a feminist, and the movie was way ahead of its time. She also said that she would love to sit with Rekha and talk about the days when the timeless beauty essayed the role of the courtesan.

Good choice, wethinks! After her hot item number in the film Joker, we are sure she is one heck of a dancer. She may just have to work on her tehzeeb a little bit though! So, any directors out there listening? Or will it be Sudhir Mishra again to the rescue? Wink wink!
