Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt‘s Dear Zindagi has passed the crucial Monday test at the box office. On day 1 (Friday), the film had earned Rs 8.75 crore. It grew on day 2 (Saturday) and day 3 (Sunday), as it earned Rs 11.25 crore and Rs 12.50 crore respectively. And even though it saw a dip on day 4 (Monday), Dear Zindagi has managed to hold its audience. The movie has added another Rs 4.25 crore yesterday to take its overall tally to Rs 36.75 crore.
Talking about the detailed collection, Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#DearZindagi passes the crucial ‘Monday test’… Fri 8.75 cr, Sat 11.25 cr, Sun 12.50 cr, Mon 4.25 cr. Total: Rs 36.75 cr [1200 screens].”
Dear Zindagi released in just 1200 screens in India coz of its genre. And looks like this has helped the movie. Not only has it minimised the distribution cost, it also helped keep the occupancy rates high. In the overseas market too, Dear Zindagi was released in just 600 screens. In just four days, the film has earned Rs 27.45 crore at the overseas box office.
Made on a budget of Rs 22 crore (cost of production only), the film is already in profit. Even if you add the publicity and advertising costs, the Dear Zindagi makers had spent maximum Rs 35 crore. Still, it has made more than that. In fact, if you consider the worldwide collections, Dear Zindagi has already made considerable profit. For the uninitiated, Dear Zindagi revolves around the life of a cinematographer Kaira (Alia Bhatt). Her emotional journey, which is affected by Angad Bedi, Kunal Kapoor and Ali Zafar, makes up the rest of the story.
