Deepika learns the Gujarati dance form because director Sanjay Leela Bhansali doesn’t want the actor to look filmy on screen
Deepika Padukone can now list another skill on her acting resume. The glam babe is learning the Gujarati dance form Garba for her upcoming film Ram Leela opposite Ranveer Singh.
Apparently, the leggy lass has been spending several hours a day for a week now, learning Garba from dancers that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has brought down from Gujarat. Also, he wants her on screen dancing to look authentic and not filmy. In the film, which is rumoured to be a desi version of Romeo and Juliet, Deepika plays a Gujarati girl and Bhansali is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that Deepika appears convincing in her character as a desi Juliet. The director recently even went to remote areas of Gujarat along with the film’s costume designer to buy Deepika’s clothes.
Well, after decking Dips to the hilt, Bhansali is making sure that she dances to his tunes too! Just a word of advice for the director – please go easy on the poor girl. Considering the original choice for the role of Leela, Kareena Kapoor, left the director in a lurch when she dropped out of the film at the last minute! Don’t want to lose another ‘Heroine’ now, do we, Mr Bhansali?
