Desi Boyz copyright case: Rohit Dhawan issued summons by Court

Also, an arrest warrant has been issued against Eros International’s Krishika Lulla, the producer of Desi Boyz

The makers of the Akshay Kumar and John Abraham’s 2011 semi-hit Desi Boyz are in trouble after scriptwriter-director Shyam Devkatte lodged a police complaint against them for copying his story. Eros International’s Krishika Lulla was issued a bailable arrest warrant and director Rohit Dhawan was sent summons by the Andheri Magistrate Court, as neither of the makers were present for the hearings.

Devkatte has accused debutant director Rohit of plagiarising a story he had registered with the Film Writers Association in 2008. The writer has been fighting this case since October 2011. He had lodged a complaint at the Amboli police station on realising that Desi Boyz was copied from a script he had submitted to the producers.

This could surely dampen the young Rohit’s spirits, as his younger brother Varun gears up for his acting debut in Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year this October. Also, only a while ago, after the decent success of Desi Boyz, Rohit tied the knot with longtime girlfriend Jaanvi Desai in a high-profile ceremony in Goa. Such is life!

Yet we wonder how the filmmakers managed to copy the film twice over, since Desi Boyz was already inspired by the 1999 Adam Sandler-starrer Big Daddy! A copy of a copy? Strange, isn’t it?
