Poor Kajol, crushed between her loyalty towards her producer husband and her favourite director chooses to make a sneaky entry at the premiere of Jab Tak Hai Jaan
The premiere of Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan can easily be counted among the great movie moments of the year. Yash Raj Studios on Monday saw all its leading ladies proudly walk the red carpet, posing in their finest, smiling wide for the shutterbugs….but where was Kajol? The diva, who has been as regular a fixture in Yash Chopra’s films as Shahrukh Khan, was missing and that fact was apparent both to the media and to the guests attending the prestigious event.
The much-publicised ongoing war between her husband Ajay’s company Ajay Devgn Ffilms and the powerful Yash Raj Films over distribution rights has affected Kajol, perhaps more than anyone else. Her loss is not monetary – the two parties are fighting for their slice of the BO pie – but one that affects her closest relationships. Kajol, who has worked in Yash Chopra’s most famous film till date, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, was supposed to be the main attraction at the do, along with her co-actor Shahrukh Khan and other leading ladies, including Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Sridevi and Rekha. Before the event, husband Ajay Devgn repeatedly insisted that he had no issues with Kajol attending the do, yet most thought she would stand by her man and give the Jab Tak Hai Jaan celebration a miss.
However, Kajol did show up at the premiere, we are told, albeit without the media’s knowledge. She entered via a back door escorted by Aditya Chopra, who is a very close friend of hers and perpetually media shy! So Kajol was there and showed that off-celluloid relationships are not as fickle as they are made out to be.
Well, we’re glad Kajol paid her tribute in her own way to Yash Chopra. In fact, the bindass girl that she is, we would have been terribly disappointed had she not showed up! And it’s only fair. After all, why should Kajol destroy her long professional bond with Yash Raj, the Chopra family and Shahrukh over a box-office turf battle between the boys?
