The maverick filmmaker misguided the Jism 2 actor while his acting career was taking off
Ram Gopal Varma is known for mentoring new talents and that is one reason he is still respected despite the duds that he delivers every now and then. Starting from Satya, RGV has given the industry some really remarkable actors, directors and technicians. Manoj Bajpayee, Anurag Kashyap, Shimit Amin and Jaideep Sahni are one of those who outgrew his camp and made their own space in B-town. The flipside is that Ramu tends to take over the careers of his protégés, which sometimes causes more bad than good. Some examples of that are Manoj Bajpayee, Urmila Matondkar and Antara Mali.
That is the reason we were not surprised when we heard that Ramu tried to (intentionally or otherwise) sabotage Randeep Hooda’s acting career. Recently, Hooda confessed that RGV paid him Rs 35,000 per month for not working with others, which worked against him in the long run. He also went on to reveal details of how RGV misguided him. “I got better offers but turned them down for silly reasons. For instance, I was offered Rang De Basanti. Ramu (RGV) remarked that I wasn’t the leading man, asked how much money I was getting, etc,” the beefy dude said in an interview to a daily. Wethinks if Hooda would have done RDB, his career as an actor might have been much better, just like Sharman Joshi who shot to fame after his goofy act in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s take on the power of youth!
