The Kahaani director will play the fictional Bengali detective Byomkesh Bakshi in Rituparno Ghosh’s next
Sujoy Ghosh proved his mettle as a filmmaker with the much-acclaimed Vidya Balan starrer Kahaani. And now the 38-year-old director will turn into an actor. He will essay the role of the celebrated Bengali detective Byomkesh Bakshi in Rituparno Ghosh’s upcoming venture Chorabali (Quicksand). The dhoti-clad, intelligent detective created by Bengali author Sharadindu Bandopadhyay, has for long fascinated lovers of literature and filmmakers alike, and now the accomplished Bengali filmmaker is gearing up to bring the fictional character on to the big screen, with able support from Sujoy.
Ask Sujoy if he’s excited about being in front of the cameras and the intelligent director gives a frank reply. “I have never faced the camera before but Rituda (Rituparno) told me I am fit for the role. If he feels so, then I am game for it. He has written the screenplay and I must tell you, it is one of the best I have read so far. I could not refuse the film,” said Sujoy in an interview.
