The list of B-town directors now has one more entry: Divya Khosla Kumar. And it looks like the lady is following Abbas Tyrewala’s footsteps
T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar’s wife Divya has found a new passion. Divya is no alien to the world of Bollywood, thanks to her acting stints in movies like Dal – The Gang and Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo. Also, the lady has penned dialogues for movies like Kites and Life in a Metro. Armed with such experience, now Mrs Kumar is ready to don the director’s hat with a youth-centric movie that will be produced by fond hubby Bhushan Kumar and Viacom 18. The movie is slated to go on the floors by August this year and will probably release next summer.
What’s more, Pritam has been roped in to write the music for the movie, the lyrics of which will be written by Irshad Kamil, whose claim to fame has been the songs of Rockstar, Jodi Breakers and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. The actors are still being chosen, we hear.
Talking about it Divya says, “Since it is a youth film, we wanted someone young, in the age group of 19-20 years of age. If we had taken some 30 or 40-year-old actor, it wouldn’t have looked genuine. Also, I did not want a starry-starry film.” She excited and tells us more…”I have been directing ads and videos for quite some time. I wanted to direct films and have learned the nuances of direction, like cinematography, editing and direction . The script of the film that I am making is also ready. It is a youth-centric film on the lines of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na,” she says.
Jaane Tu, a movie with fresh and young faces, was made by debutant director Abbas Tyrewala. But it did have starry kids in it – Imran Khan and Prateik Babbar – which may be the element missing from Divya’s debut production. But will that make a difference? We don’t know. Guess only the summer of 2013 will tell.
