The lead guitarist of the famous Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio celebrates his 49th birthday today!
Born on October 12, 1962 Ehsaan Noorani is the lead guitarist of the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio which consist of Shankar Mahadevan, Loy Mendonsa and himself. Ehsaan worked as a guitarist for many music directors before he started composing soundtracks.He studied music at the Musicians’ Institute in Los Angeles and worked with the likes of Ronnie Desai, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Kalyanji-Anandji and Louis Banks. He even did several jingles before entering into films.
His first project was Mukul Anand’s film Dus, but he insisted that his friend Shankar and Loy, who too had a tremendous passion for music, also work with him and Anand agreed. The film remained incomplete after Anand’s death, though the album was released later in 1999. After Dus, Ehsaan, with the able support of Shankar and Loy, composed music for a couple of films like Rockford and Bhopal Express, but all of them went unnoticed.
The trio’s entry to mainstream cinema was with Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s's Mission Kashmir, which was a musical hit, and it earned the trio a place in Bollywood. The trio received an unparalleled popularity for their distinct music for Farhan Akhtar’s 2001 film Dil Chahta Hai, and the rest is history.
So far the trio has composed music for over fifty soundtracks across four languages. Among the most critically acclaimed Indian musicians, they have trio have won over twenty awards, including one National Award, three Filmfare Awards and several other awards and nominations.
