The entire Ek Villain team must be on cloud nine and they should be. After all, the romantic thriller has managed to impress the critics and audience alike

Mohit Suri’s latest directorial venture Ek Villain has got cash registers jingling and how! The film starring Sidharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh in the lead finally hit the theatres yesterday. As expected the film had a flying start at the box office. Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh posted on Twitter, “Friday trends so far: East – West – North – South: #EkVillain has a THUNDEROUS start everywhere.” In that case, we aren’t surprised that Suri’s film ended up grossing Rs 16.72 crore net on the day 1. Adarsh tweeted, “#EkVillain Fri ₹ 16.72 cr nett [2539 screens]. India biz. Second highest opener of 2014. In terms of screen average, it’s HIGHEST. AWESOME!”

According to Boxofficeindia, “Ek Villian had an excellent first day as it recorded collections of 16-16.50 crore nett on day one. The all India collections were similar to Jai Ho with multiplexes being better and single screens less. The film is the first real opener of the year as Jai Ho was a wider release. The collections of Ek Villain were fantastic all over with some circuits recording the highest collections for the year.”

Well, if Sid and Shraddha starrer continues its dream run at the box office then we are pretty sure Ek Villain will break quite a few records. What do you think Bollywoodlifers?
