Ekta Kapoor’s Romil and Juggal to be a gay love story – read deets

Kaisi Yeh Yaariyaan was one of the shows last year that explored the concept of gay relationships. The existence of the LGBT community is a reality that people are coming to accept slowly but gradually. Balaji ALT, the digital platform of Balaji Telefilms will focus on new-age stories and concepts as told by Ekta Kapoor a few days before. One of their first projects will be Romil and Juggal – a gay love story set in modern times. With this, the producer hopes to challenge the misconceptions around homosexuality. As per a report in Tellychakkar.com, Romil and Juggal is a version of Romeo and Juliet with a gay angle. The series will be helmed by Danish Aslam and is not the typical romance. Ekta Kapoor has got on board Ishita Moitra who wrote dialogues for Ragini MMS 2. The two male lovers will belong to warring families. It has the 2 States effect with one being from a Punjabi home and other from a South Indian one. Despite the differences, the two guys fall in love. Maninee Mishra will play the Punjabi mom while Suchitra Pillai is the over emotional South Indian mother. In a statement to The Times of India, Danish said, “The script had to undergo some changes, which is why it got delayed. The concept was never shelved. We’re back to the writing and almost close to the finish. The filmmaker said he could not reveal more but stated that it was a mature love story between two men that was not seen before in Hindi cinema or TV. Rajeev Siddhartha who was last seen in Anil Kapoor’s 24 will play Romil while actor Manraj Singh will be Juggal. He was seen on Yeh Dil Sun Raha Hai.

According to sources, “Rajeev and Manraj as Romil and Juggal respectively, have an amazing onscreen chemistry. This cute love story with a difference will take the audiences into a dream land of two men who are in immense love with each other.” The show will go on air from December 2016.
