The choreographer-director-producer-actor turns 49 today!
Born on January 9, 1965, Farah Khan started her career as a choreographer with Aamir Khan starrer Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander. She has since then choreographed more than 80 songs in over 100 films. Her long list of accomplishments include choreographing for movies like Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil Se.., Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Asoka and many more. Farah has received the Best Choreographer Award for Ek pal ka jeena, Woh ladki hain kahan, Idar chala mein udar chala, Deewangi deewangi, Munni badnaam hui, Sheila ki jawani and Ja chudail. The choreographer in her treaded international waters when she choreographed for movies like Monsoon Wedding, Bombay Dreams and Vanity Fair. She was also nominated for Tony Award as Best Choreographer, along with collaborator Anthony van Laast, for Bombay Dreams.
Farah debuted behind the camera with Shahrukh Khan starrer film Main Hoon Na, for which she won the Best Debut Director award. She then went on to direct Om Shanti Om and Tees Maar Khan. While Om Shanti Om became the highest grossing film of all time at the time of it’s release, Tees Maar Khan bombed at the box office. She’s currently working on Happy New Year as a director, which start Shahrukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Sonu Sood and Boman Irani.
Apart from doing many cameos and special appearances, the ace choreographer acted full time in the movie Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi opposite Boman Irani. She has hosted the celebrity chat show Tere Mere Beech Mein along with co-judging Indian Idol - Season 1 and Season 2, Jo Jeeta Wohi Super Star, Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, Dance India Dance Li’l Masters and Just Dance.
