Farhan Akhtar: Direction is more special than acting

The multifaceted filmmaker likes being behind the camera slightly more than facing it

There is no aspect of entertainment – direction, production, acting, scriptwriting, singing and hosting – that Farhan Akhtar has left untouched. Yet, he has a favourite role that he loves to play again and again. No, it’s not acting! The multifaceted filmmaker is too much in love with being behind the camera than facing it. And according to his interview in a newspaper the reason why direction wins over the other jobs he performs is, “You are also involved with the project for much longer. A lot more time is invested. So possibly that means a little bit more, but not to say that the other does not matter. I think the benefits of a film doing good are far more better as an actor than as a director. But as a director, it feels a lot more special.”

Perhaps, that’s why Farhan’s first step in Bollywood was as a director and not as an actor. Though we think the good-looking dude does a good job in both departments, but sadly we can’t say the same about his singing prowess. Fortunately, the actor who will portray Milkha Singh, the fastest Indian runner in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, thinks so too. “I am an average singer,” says Farhan and continues, “If I am suddenly asked to do a very harkat bhara (varied voice modulations) kind of song, there is no way I’m going to do it. I’m not trained to do it. So I won’t.”
