Watch the trailer of Anurag Kashyap’s next film based on the coal mafia of the hinterlands in UP
After his low-budget indie flick, That Girl In Yellow Boots, director Anurag Kashyap is ready with his latest directorial venture Gangs of Wasseypur, which will be premiered in the Directors Fortnight section of the 65th Cannes Film Festival, to be held in the second week of May. GOW has an ensemble cast and Manoj Bajpayee will be seen playing the central character, Sardar Khan, who is seeking revenge from his enemies.
The other highlights of the high-voltage trailer are Nawazuddin Siddiqui (sporting the Big B wig), Richa Chadha spouting the choicest expletives, Tigmanshu Dhulia, but we are waiting to see more of Piyush Mishra, who is said to have a powerful part in the film. Shot on real locations, this gangster revenge drama spanning six decades and three generations is set in Wasseypur, a small cinema obsessed hub in Dhanbad. Bollywood has taken over the lives of people there who only have vendetta on their minds.
Talking about his ambitious project Kashyap said in a recent interview, “I thought I was making this film for the Indian mainstream market. After The Girl in Yellow Boots, I wanted to make a mainstream gangster film. I never thought a film with 25 songs could get such a response from festivals. It is set in a very strange and quirky underworld. It is unlike any other gangster film. The response from film festivals in the last six months has been fantastic.” Wethinks the makers have come up with an impressive trailer and we now wait to watch the film when it hits the theaters.
