In the soon-to-release Force, John Abraham’s co-star moves away from her girl-next-door image and reveals a different facet of her personality. But will it work for her?
Be it films or advertisements, Genelia D’Souza has always been the girl who brightens up the screen with her naughty smile. But from what you see in the promos of Nishikant Kamat’s Force (Hindi remake of Tamil film Kaakha Kaakha), Genelia looks daringly different and gets pretty intimate with her co-star, John Abraham. In a recent interview the Chance Pe Dance actor confessed that it was the reason she signed on to do the film. Genelia said, “The sensuality and romance showed in the original Kaakha kaakha was something I loved. I had no problems with being intimate on screen, as long as there was no vulgarity and it was done tastefully.” She continued, “I knew this character would be a challenge. But I was up for it. People will get to see a different side of me.” The question is whether her fans will accept her in a sensual role. We think she looks good in the promos, but will reserve judgement till we get a complete dekho at the movie. Genelia is not the only actor who has tried to break away from stereotypes. Before her, women like Katrina Kaif, Amrita Rao, Minissha Lamba, Kangna Ranaut and many others have done it. While some succeeded, some were forced to go back to portray roles that got them famous in the first place. Actors take these decisions at various junctures in their careers. So we don’t know if Genelia will succeed in her new film, but we think it is a little too early in her career to be that drastically different. Don’t you?
