Giaa Manek to play genie in Jeannie Aur Juju!

Giaa Manek to play genie in Jeannie Aur Juju!

The Indian adaptation of the popular American sitcom I Dream Of Jeannie will soon see Gopi bahu in a new avatar. Are you excited?

Now who can forget Barbara Eden going blink-blink in I Dream Of Jeannie? Certainly not those of you who grew up in the 90s. But as we fondly remembered the times when our favourite Jeannie went wrong oh-so-cutely, we woke up to find out that we’ll soon have an Indian adaptation of it. Oh!

What’s more, it will be Giaa Manek – more popularly known as the seedhi-saadhi Gopi bahu of Saath Nibhana Saathiya, who was recently eliminated not only from her soap but from the dance reality show she took part in for a brief while, Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa 5 – who will play the role of Jeannie in the desi version. Co-starring with her will be the oh-so-funny Ali Asgar in the the role of Vicky, her master. Hmmm, so now what? Should we look forward to a genie going blink-blink and making theplas and aachaar appear? Guess we should.

“With Giaa in the show, we’re sure to attract a huge audience to watch the show, as she has a big fan following. Giaa’s innocence works for the character and Ali’s experience will enhance the show even further,” Anooj Kapoor, Executive Vice President and Business Head, SAB TV said. Really?

Looking at the fate of other phoren sitcoms like Bewitched adapted as Meri Biwi Wonderful, Small Wonder as Karishma Kaa Karishma – serials that made us squirm and cling to the memories of the original – we really wanna go blink-blink ourselves and coax the makers to think again.

Tell us, readers: Do you think the Indian adaptation of I Dream Of JeannieJeannie Aur Juju will work?

Jia is over smart, but really very boring to watch! Moreover, the image of Gopi bahu still over shadows her own image as an actor. And if she’s to wear anything other than the conventional saree, she will look so ill-fitted. Sorry, but Gia definitely is not the right choice to play the role of the extremely funny Jeannie!

The worst adaptation ever seen on TV. The cast is pathetic to say the least. Larry will turn in his grave. RIP Larry
