This week Ali Abbas Zafar’s much-awaited film Gunday will hit the theatres. While the trailer of the film has received great response from the audience, will this crime thriller live up to the expectations?
Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan are all set to woo the audience with their film Gunday. While Ali Abbas Zafar’s directorial venture looks promising, the film may find it tough to get cash registers ringing. We say so coz except for Salman Khan Starrer Jai Ho, none of the films released this year have entered the coveted Rs 100 crore club. However, Singh is riding high on the success of his last film Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, Ms Chopra has a huge fan following not only in India but abroad as well thanks to her new found international pop star status and the Kapoor lad caught attention with his debut film Ishqzaade. So coming together of this trio along with the very versatile actor Irrfan may prove to be an asset for the film.
Exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi says, “Rather than looking at Gunday as a film with 2 relative newcomers leading the case, we should look at it as a film with a top notch ensemble case! With Ranveer and Arjun having scored well with their films in the past, Priyanka being among the top heroines in the business and Irrfan being one of the best acclaimed actors in the country, the set up looks outstanding at the macro level! To add to that, the backing of a banner like YRF which is always outstanding with their production values, the film has the potential to achieve numbers that most people can’t imagine! I expect it to score a century at the box office and perform well across multiplexes as well as single screens, metros as well as small towns!”
Ace astro-numerologist Bhavikk Sangghvi predicts, “The year 2014 which adds up to Number 7 (Ketu) has a direct link with Number 2 (Moon) and the title vibration (20)goes perfectly in sync with that. Producer Aditya Chopra (21st May 1971) in his 43rd (7) year is passing through his best times and eventually the film will turn out to be a ‘win-win’ situation for everyone involved with this project.”
With great buzz around the film, supremely talented star cast and good music, Gunday should be able to pull the crowds to the theatres. But how far will it go in the numbers game? We dunno. Guess will have to wait and watch!
