The latest season of the music reality show stars Gurpreet Singh Sarin, whom the hosts seem to have chosen for other things besides his singing talent
The latest season of American Idol, besides its interesting mix of contestants who posses other qualities besides being a good singer, will feature a rather interesting contestant of Indian origin. 22-year-old Gurpreet Singh Sarin passed the initial elimination rounds and got himself a ticket to Hollywood to be a part of the latest season of the talent show. And while on the show, the contestant impressed the judges Nicky Minaj, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson a lot with his dressing sense.
Sarin, who appeared to be a decent singer, and not a great one, impressed the judges with his unique nickname The Turbanator! (is Harbhajan Singh listening?) The judges were also impressed by his positivity and the way the young dude matched his turbans with his outfit. (That’s clearly not a selection criteria on Indian Idol!) While selecting him, pop-star Nicky Minaj nicknamed him an even shorter turb, which had the judges in splits!
And though in cyberspace, Americans are calling the poor guy Osama Bin Laden, and a torrent of Arab-related jokes are doing the rounds, wethinks the young guy has it in him, for when he sang a classical song, he clearly had a great range! A
