Teenaged Bobby, who took our breath away in that yellow bikini in 1973 celebrates her 55th birthday today

Dimple Chunnibhai Kapadia, who was born on June 8, 1957, is well known for her prowess as an actor. Dimple started her filmi career with Raj Kapoor’s Bobby (1973) at the age of 16, playing Rishi Kapoor’s love interest. And to date she is remembered for her innocent yet sexy look in the movie. Her role was ranked as the fourth best female debut of all time by a website in 2008.

By the time Bobby released in 1973, Dimple had already married Rajesh Khanna, the B-town heartthrob of the time, and had taken a sabbatical from cinema to raise her children – Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna. It was only after separating from Rajesh Khanna in 1982 that Dimple decided to come back to movies. After a gap of almost a decade, she acted in Ramesh Sippy’s Sagar and won a Filmfare Award as Best Actress.

After that, Dimple acted in many memorable movies – Kaash (1987), Drishti (1990), Lekin…(1990) and Rudali (1993), which won her the National Award for Best Actress. Dil Chahta Hai (2001) marked Dimple’s entry into the new-age film scene and more recently we’ve seen her in Being Cyrus (2005), Luck By Chance (2009), Dabanng (2010) and Patiala House (2011).

While Dimple is remembered for her acting skills, the elegant way in which she conducts herself is also commendable. Today, as the actor turns 55, we wish her all the best for the future and a very happy birthday! Cheers!
