Juhi Chawla was one of the first beauty queens to make a mark in Bollywood. As she turns 44, we wish her all the joy and success that she deserves
Juhi Chawla embarked on her filmi career after winning the Miss India beauty contest in 1984, in Sultanat. She went on to become one of the top leading heroines of her time and starred in films ranging from the romantic comedies like Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (which won her the Filmfare Best Actress Award) to women-oriented films like Daraar. Though her career got its first boost with the Aamir Khan-starrer, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Juhi later found her comfort zone with Shahrukh Khan. They did some memorable films such as Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Darr and Yes Boss together and went on to start their own production house, Dreamz Unlimited. She has been mostly recognised for her comic timing and her million dollar dimpled smile. After having starred in over 70 mainstream masala films, she started acting in art-house and independent films. She has made appearances in Punjabi films and has been mostly working in parallel cinema. She gained critical acclaim for her sterling performances in films like Jhankaar Beats, 3 Deewarein, My Brother, Nikhil, Bas Ek Pal and the most recent, I AM. She is also known as one of the most wonderful human beings in B-town. Her brother Bobby Chawla slipped into a coma early last year and since then, she has been taking care of him regularly and praying for his recovery. We hope he recovers soon and we get to see Juhi’s endearing smile more often.
