Imtiaz Ali’s latest offering created a lot of buzz amongst the movie goers. But the much-awaited Alia Randeep starrer had a poor first day opening. Though the film picked up during the weekend, it has only managed to earn Rs 13.97 in three days
Imtiaz Ali’s much-awaited film Highway featuring Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda in lead hit the screens on Friday (February 21). While the expectations were quite high from Ali’s road movie, Highway didn’t manage to pull in crowds to the theatres. The film witnessed a poor opening on its first day and raked in only Rs 3.42 cr nett. However, the film’s collection was better over the weekend. Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Highway Fri 3.42 cr, Sat 4.80 cr, Sun 5.75 cr. Total: Rs 13.97 cr nett. India biz only.” But compared to Jimmy Shergill starrer Darr @ The Mall which released on the same day, Highway fared better despite the former having a wider release.
According to Boxofficeindia, “Highway grossed around 13-13.25 crore nett in its first weekend. The film had an upward trend over the weekend but due to a slow start at most places it needed a bigger jump on Saturday. The growth had to be over 50 percent but was around the 35 percent range.”
With Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan’s Shaadi Ke Side Effects releasing this week, Highway may have a tough time sustaining itself at the box office. When we recently caught up with Alia, the starlet said that Highway is more of a word-of-mouth film. Well, we hope that’s case coz the film’s box office collection tells a different story.
