How did Prakash Jha’s ‘Chakravyuh’ change Arjun Rampal as an Indian citizen?

Thanks to the political thriller, the RA.One actor is now more aware about the Naxal issue and has a strong opinion about how things could be improved

Hard as you try, it is very difficult to take supermodels who strut their booties to make a living very seriously. They are often seen as pretty faces with not too much in the smarts department. Of course, there are exceptions to this; the latest to show off his brain cells is supermodel-turned-actor Arjun Rampal. He has been around for a while now, but he hasn’t been spotlit for his acting skills or worldview. His beefy bod and trademark baritone have been his ticket to fame.

Working with Prakash Jha – first in Raajneeti and now in Chakravyuh – seems to have changed things for the handsome hunk. At the trailer launch of Jha’s new film, Arjun admitted that he knows a lot more now than he used to about what goes on in his own country. He said, “While shooting Chakravyuh we spent a lot of time in the troubled areas and I was sad to see how the villagers didn’t have water, electricity and even basic things like medical facilities. The huge taxes that we are paying are not reaching the people.”

He explained, “In Chakravyuh I play the character of Adil (a cop), who believes that if there is a problem in the system, it should be fixed and not destroyed. Before we started working on the film, I didn’t know much about how organised and how far-spread this Naxal movement was. It was an eye-opener for me.” While we think that it is good to see that the filmmaker is ensuring that such issues are brought to light – as he did in previous films like Mrityudand, Apharan and Aarakshan – we don’t know how much change his work will bring into the times we live in.
