The showman has brought out only one film under his music label
Subhash Ghai’s films have always been known for great music. Although, his last film Yuvvraaj launched its music under the T-Series label, Ghai now plans to revive his home banner Mukta Music with his forthcoming film, Kaanchi.
Ghai had launched his own music label with Vivek Oberoi starrer Kisna. He had said back then, “The music of my films, be it Karz, Hero, Khalnayak, Ram Lakhan, Taal and Yaadein, to name a few, have always been a hit. People told me long ago, when I first got into production, that I should launch a music arm for my company. But my focus was different then.”
Although there has been only one film that has come out under this label, the showman is all gung ho on bringing it back to life with Kaanchi. Talking to a leading daily, Ghai stated, “Now that we are making Kaanchi, which is a big musical thriller, and we are going all out with the film, we thought this would be the best time to re-launch the music arm. We have decided to ramp up our distribution, exhibition and production business a great deal. The music industry has become so much more transparent.”
Ghai also plans to throw open the music label to other production houses’ films as well. He feels keeping the banner restricted for films made under just Mukta Arts banner is restricting the growth of the banner as a big name in the music industry. Mukta Music is also widening its horizon and trying to acquire, produce and distribute music under the label.
Now with all musicians protesting against royalty issues with the music labels, will it be a good time for Ghai to revamp his own music label? Only time will tell us that, right BollywoodLifers?
