Karan Malhotra’s much awaited venture had turned a nightmare that not only haunted the makers, but also became one of the hottest gossip
We at BollywoodLife were the first ones to tell you that Salman Khan is the hero in Karan Johar’s Shhuddhi. The casting of Shhuddhi was the burning issue in tinsel town. It even made the vocal filmmaker KJo a recluse. And why not, his ambitious project to unite ex-lovers Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor was in the back burner after the duo walked out.
However, here’s how the Kick star bagged the much awaited Karan Johar film…
SRK – KJo fall apart: While we expected like all his earlier Koffee With Karan episodes this year too King Khan will indulge in some candid confessions on the couch. However, with Salman making his grand debut and hogging all the limelight, little was left for SRK. Not a surprise then that King Khan gave king size excuses of IPL 7 and Happy New Year shoot to avoid sipping coffee with his best buddy. Rumour mills also suggested how Karan’s growing fondness and open admiration for his arch rival didn’t go down very well with Shah Rukh. Hence he didn’t pick his pal’s film that was left in a lurch.
Casting woes: Soon after this much talked about Hrithik-Kareena walk-out everybody from Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor were approached according to the buzz. Many said how ruling queen of B-town Deepika Padukone would step into Bebo’s shoes. And that Katrina Kaif and RK Jr were being considered as replacement for HR and Bebo. However, things fell apart when Dippy and Ranveer chose Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani over her Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani maker’s movie upping his casting woes. And Kat-RK had their dates and scheds packed.
Salman Khan the friend in need: For long now Karan Johar has been shouting from roof tops how he is waiting for the opportunity to work with Sallu miyaan. So, when SRK, Ranbir and Ranveer all turned their faces, the large-hearted Salman accepted the Shhuddhi offer. Making this the first full-fledged role in a Dharma movie.
With Salman taking over, we’re sure one thing that Karan doesn’t have to worry about is drawing crowds o the theatres. After all, he’s the most Wanted Khan of Bollywood, right BollywoodLifers?
