Ilaiyaraaja’s Sangeet Natak Akademi honour makes Kollywood happy!

The music maestro has been honoured for creative and experimental music and the Tamil film industry is proud of his achievements

Awards and accolades are not new to Ilaiyaraaja. In the past, the music maestro, who is affectionately referred to as Isaignani, has been the recipient of many honours. And the latest news is that he has been selected for the coveted Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 2012.

Ilaiyaraaja has been picked for the honour for creative and experimental music.

Many Kollywood personalities and fans have expressed their happiness on the composer’s win. Singer Karthik said, “Raja sir has made Kollywood and the music industry proud again.” Devi Sri Prasad said, “It’s yet another gift from Raja sir to the field of music.”

The Akademi awards symbolises the highest standard of excellence and achievement on a national basis. It recognises sustained individual work and contribution to the practice and appreciation of arts through performance, teaching and scholarship.
