Is producer-director Karan Johar taking a big gamble by casting Imran Khan opposite Kareena Kapoor in his next, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu?
Many in B-town are busy these days discussing the casting of Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor together in Dharma Productions’ next, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, to be directed by Shakun Batra. Bollywood is a sexist place as far as so many boundaries are concerned, from age to sexuality to who knows what else. While Shahrukh Khan can romance Deepika Padukone with impunity, it becomes a case of hara-kiri when Konkona Sen Sharma is cast opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Bebo opposite Imran is being touted as one such mistake. Even though Kareena looks young enough to pass as a teenager, she has more often than not been paired with ‘men’ than ‘boys’ and the audience has accepted the status quo. Now with this casting coup Dharma Productions is all set to upset the applecart. It is said that in this one Imran plays a hard-nosed architect, while Kareena acts out the part of a hairstylist; the two fall in love… eventually. The question is, will people accept Imran and Kareena together, especially considering that there is a substantial and almost ‘generation’ gap between the two? While Imran has been cast opposite Katrina in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Kareena will be seen with Salman Khan in Bodyguard. Apparently KJo has taken a huge risk here and this time there is no ‘K’ in the title either! Oh wait – we did notice an extra ‘K’ sneaked into the title! Will it work? What do you think?
