Actor Imran Khan launched Celina Jaitley’s ‘The Welcome’ video to support the LGBT community. Read on to find out what he said
Actor Imran Khan who has always been vocal about his thoughts on the LGBT community launched the first UN Bollywood music video starring actor Celina Jaitley who promotes its ‘Free & Equal’ campaign for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality in the society. Apart from Imran and Celina, the others present at the event included transgender rights activist Laxmi Tripathi, Humsafar Trust Founder Ashok Row and Cyrus Broacha played a host. He opened the program on a lighter note and said, “Welcome to Free & Equal campaign, if you’re wondering if this is a launch of a sugar brand than its not.” He further added, “It’s only about the cause we all support and have gathered here to promote the same.”
The entire panel was in a jubilant mood and answered all the questions from the media. Celina with this video has made her musical debut and is very excited to garner reactions from the viewers. The No Entry actor said, “I am honored to contribute in such a good cause. Music is a universal language. It can engage people’s passion, and that’s when good things happen.” When asked to explain a little bit about the video the actor turned social activist said, “The Welcome is about an acceptance of an idea that we would want to establish in the society. The entire set up in the video looks celebratory and jovial where one man brings another guy to the family event. We are here only trying to establish an idea that two men can be together. Gay marriage is our second step; you may probably see that in the sequel of this video.”
When the Gori Tere Pyaar Mein actor was questioned on why is his industry not very vocal in support of the stigmatised community, the doting actor said, “It’s not about one industry or the other, it’s really about the larger cause. I can’t speak for everyone, but for me I am completely in support of the cause.” When further asked if he isn’t worried about being type casted as a gay man if he supports the cause, the actor was quick to reply. “You know all these questions of me being straight or not just because I am supporting the cause, I believe are irrelevant. It’s a distraction from the larger cause. On the global level we will look foolish if we behave so conservative, I am only trying to make us look less foolish,” said Imran.
