The film will now hit the screens in May instead of April
Priyadarshan has a reason to grin. His film Tezz has just got a boost in its box office collections. We know Tezz hasn’t released yet, but it was slated to do so on April 27 alongside Ferrari Ki Sawaari. The clash could have affected Tezz adversely but now all is well. Vidhu Vinod Chopra has decided to postpone the release of Ferrari Ki Sawaari. The Sharman Joshi-starrer will now hit screens sometime in May. Priyadarshan has only Indian Premier League to thank.
The fifth edition of the IPL will begin on April 4 and go on till May 27. It’s an accepted train of thought for many filmmakers that when there is a huge cricketing event in the country, audiences tend to stay away from the theatres. Usually big films don’t release during a cricket world cup or IPL. There have been exceptions to this rule – the latest being Tanu Weds Manu – but it seems Vidhu has decided to not take that risk. Is it because it stars Sharman and not a bigger star like say Aamir Khan? Aamir’s presence would have definitely made FKS an exception to the rule. FKS has an item number by Vidya Balan, but that’s just not the same. Vidhu’s rival Tezz, on the other hand, as Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor and Kangna Ranaut to woo the viewers. Plus an item number by Mallika Sherawat! Anyway, Vidhu has now decided to release the film during the tail end of IPL 5 when everyone’s pretty bored of it anyway or even after the tournament ends. We wonder if the strategy will make a difference. After so many years in the industry, Vidhu should know that the only way to ensure BO success is to make a good film. Simple, isn’t it?
