Is Karan Johar pushing Alia Bhatt too hard?

The young babe fainted on the sets of reality dance show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5 while promoting Karan Johar’s upcoming production Student Of The Year

Reality shows have become very important platforms for movie promotions. Nowadays you see filmmakers and mega-stars making their glittering appearances on a string of reality shows to create a strong buzz about their upcoming ventures. But hectic schedules and erratic promotional travel are taking a heavy toll on B-town’s stars. Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter Alia Bhatt, who is making her debut in Karan Johar’s ambitious film Student Of The Year, is the latest victim of such crazy promotional overdrive.

Apparently the young starlet was on the sets of the popular dance show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5 with her co-stars Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra. Incidentally, Student Of The Year’s director Karan Johar, who is judging the show, had no idea that an untoward incident would happen while the three young actors of his new film were performing to Disco deewane on the sets of Jhalak.

The shoot was taking place at 10pm. That’s when Alia took to the stage to perform, but she lost her balance and fainted on the set. KJo rushed to Alia’s aid and the shoot was stalled for nearly an hour. The recording was resumed only when Karan was sure that his young heroine was fine.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that a Bollywood starlet has crumbled under the huge pressure of promoting a film. Recently, Bengali bombshell Bipasha Basu landed up in hospital suffering the after-effects of excessive promotional activities for her horror flick Raaz 3. Priyanka Chopra, who is in the news for her stellar performance in Barfi!, also fell ill due to non-stop promotions of the Anurag Basu production.

It is high time that B-town filmmakers take it easy with their promotional gimmicks and give their stars some breathing space. After all, overworked actors collapsing because of a promotional overdrive is not a happy sign, though such incidents can immediately grab headlines to push films to bigger success. Such is the irony of the promotional game!
