The filmmaker is going through another round of editing for his latest romance starring the reported ex-lovers who are now just ‘good friends’
Kunal Kohli’s Teri Meri Kahaani is only a month away from release (June 22), but instead of promoting his forthcoming love story the filmmaker is holed up in a dark editing studio, cutting and tweaking the climax scene again. While re-shooting and re-editing are part of the art called filmmaking, there can be a lot of reasons Kohli took the Shahid Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra starrer back to the editing table.
One, since the film is divided in three lifetimes, making a sensible yet appealing narrative can be a perplexing task. Editing is one of the crucial aspects of filmmaking and the only way to save a film after it is shot. Many movies are made on the editing table, they say. Imran Khan’s first feature film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na was edited four times before his mamujaans Aamir Khan and Mansoor Khan approved the final cut was fine for release.
Second – the most obvious reason, since TMK promos have been garnering mixed reviews – the filmmaker is nervous and doing his best to salvage his labour of love starring Shaks and PC. Years ago, when the two actors acted in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey, the romance rumours fuelled a lot of interest in the couple and their first film together. Right now, the lead pair’s equation has changed and love stories, an overdone genre in Bollywood, aren’t really making cashiers at ticket counters in cinema halls dance with glee. Doesn’t this paint a gloomy picture for TMK?
