With news coming in of the Kapoor lad charging Rs 15 crore upfront for Abhinav Kashyap’s Besharam, Bollywood is wondering whether the Rockstar actor has actually overshot his contemporaries’ latest paychecks… trade experts say the hike is justified!
Ranbir Kapoor is certainly smiling all the way to the bank. Reportedly, the son of veteran actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor has charged an exorbitant Rs 15 crore from the makers of Besharam. Ranboo’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has not only proved to be the biggest opener of the year and the biggest hit of his career, but it has also created history of sorts by debuting in the top 10 at the US box office, all because of Ranbir’s star power!
“If Ranbir is charging Rs 15 crore for his films, it’s completely justified!” avers exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi. “Considering the kind of business Barfi! and YJHD did and the building anticipation around Besharam, RK Jr is definitely a big draw with the audience. If used suitably in films, he has it in him to breach the Rs 200 crores mark at the box office!”
If our feathered little friend is to be believed, Katrina Kaif’s alleged boyfriend has been toying with the ‘price rise’ idea for a long time now, and with Abhinav Kashyap’s Besharam, he decided to hike his remuneration by almost 50 percent! Looks like the eligible bachelor will not compromise on his value, irrespective of the number of days required for the shoot of a film. We are told that the Besharam actor has charged the same amount from close friend and debutant director Vicky Singh for a 10-day schedule of Roy for an extended cameo – the movie also stars Arjun Rampal.
So early in his career, Ranbir is the only one of his generation to have joined the elite club of senior superstars, including Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar, all of whom opt for a profit-sharing arrangement plus a fee. Good going, Ranbir! We are sure proud parents Rishi and Neetu couldn’t be happier with their laadla beta‘s besharam achievement!
