After waiting for Aamir Khan to say yes for years now, the Dev.D director has managed to convince the Rockstar actor to do his ambitious trilogy set in the 1950s but we wonder what he’s going to play in it
Following the stupendous success of Rockstar, Ranbir Kapoor has become the toast of the season and every filmmaker worth his script has been queuing up outside his door to sign him up. After having turned down a zillion offers, he has finally agreed to do Anurag Kashyap’s ambitious trilogy, Bombay Velvet. You may recall that BV was the film that was to bring Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan together for the first time. While Anurag confirmed to Bollywoodlife that he had never approached SRK, he also said that he had taken the project to Aamir Khan several years ago, but the Ghajini actor got busy and didn’t even look at the final script. Now the project has gone to Ranbir.
Bombay Velvet is based on historian Gyan Prakash’s book Mumbai Fables. The book is a synergy of everything that defines Mumbai; cinematic, literary, architectural and artistic. It is a tale of the legends, poems, books, novels, mysteries, newspaper articles, film songs, advertisements, architectural styles, comic books, apocryphal stories and paintings inspired by this city. The two factors that have helped give the city its sheen are the film industry and the mafia. But we wonder which aspect Ranbir will represent in the film.
Assuming that the most interesting character of the film will be a film star, a gangster or a cop, which part would suit Ranbir the best? Though there are no formal announcements about the protagonists, we are waiting to know all about them from our chirping B-town birdies. Till then, why don’t you tell us. Would you like to see Ranbir as a cop, a gangster or a film star?
