Is Shahid Kapoor relying on Salman Khan for a hit?

When Shahid made his B-town debut with Ishq Vishk, people said he was aping Shahrukh Khan. But now it seems the Kaminey actor has shifted loyalties to the bhai of Bollywood…at least in his new film, Phata Poster Nikhla Hero

Shahid Kapoor recently revealed that in his new film Phata Poster Nikhla Hero he plays an ardent Salman Khan fan. Well, that was quite easy to figure out just from the first trailer of the film. But this isn’t the first time that an actor has played a fan of the Dabangg dude in a film. Earlier, Katrina Kaif essayed the role of a die-hard Sallu fan in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani and the superbrat actor even made a guest appearance in the film as himself. Sallu’s presence worked wonders for that Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina starrer and it seems as if Sasha is hoping for the same response to his new flick as well. But does this mean that SK cannot pull off a film on his own any more? Is he no longer a bankable star? Does he need a superstar like Salman just to prop up his movie and ensure its success?

Going by his track record wethinks he certainly needs a miracle to save his filmi career – in this case it could be one called Salman Khan. The Jab We Met actor entered Bollywood almost a decade ago and since then has acted in 19 films. While he was touted as the next big thing in the B-town, Sasha’s journey in the industry hasn’t been too fruitful. Not too long ago, the actor delivered six back-to-back flops and his last outing Teri Meri Kahaani too was a dud. Though Shahid was approached for some really good projects like Karan Johar’s Gori Tere Pyaar Mein and Yash Raj Films’ Shuddh Desi Romance, he managed to lose both reportedly ‘coz of his not-so-friendly attitude. And with not many films under his belt – Rambo Rajkumar and Phata Poster being two – Sasha surely needs a hit to his credit to get back in the race.

While Salman has proved lucky for many newbies, we will have to wait and see if his Midas touch works for Shahid this time. What do you think, peeps?
