The showman, who is returning behind the camera with Kaanchi has high hopes from the film
Subhash Ghai – the ultimate showman of the Hindi film industry gave us masterpieces like Karz, Hero, Pardes, Taal and so on in the 80s and 90s. But as soon as we stepped into the 21st century, we hate it to admit it, the filmmaker somehow lost his charm.
After the Anil Kapoor-Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Taal, all his directorial ventures – Yaadein, Kisna, Black & White and Yuvvraaj – have bombed at the box-office despite having a formidable cast.
Now, Subhash is all set to don the director’s hat again after ages with Kaanchi, and he has high hopes from this project. “That is past now, I have a lot of hopes riding on this new film,” Ghai said. “Art and commerce – both are involved when I think of making a film. If the film is too arty and cannot be made for the general audience, then I have to think twice,” he said when asked about what kind of a film was he directing.
Kaanchi, which stars newcomers Kartik Tiwari and Mishti along with Mithun Chakraborty and Rishi Kapoor is a story of the journey of an innocent girl from the hills into a world of crime and corruption.
This is like a make or break situation for Mr Ghai. Will he be able to bounce back as a director? Well, all we can do is wait and watch.
