Her sensuous act began with Ishqiya, but now it seems to be getting repetitive and over-the-top. Don’t you think so?
When the Parineeta debutant realised that wooing her audience by wearing sexy gowns and bikinis was not her style, Vidya Balan devised a unique way of showing off her sensuous side. She let go of the girl-next-door image that had made her popular initially and turned from a coy, sacrificial lover Lolita (Parineeta) into the aggressive, scheming seductress Krishna (Ishqiya). Off-screen too, she became unapologetic of her sensuality and continued with her bold acts. Remember the thumb sucking act and fake kiss with her No One Killed Jessica co-star Rani Mukerji on Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee With Karan? Wasn’t it too much? We were hoping it’ll end soon, but nada! Vidya seems to have fallen in love with her sensual image a tad too much. Be it dirty dancing with her contemporary Riteish Deshmukh (on the Superstar Award show) or with the much-older Amitabh Bachchan (on Kaun Banega Crorepati 5) or tutoring the homely Sakshi Tanwar in coquettish moves (on Bade Achche Lagte Hain), there’s no stopping this temptress. We feel she has forgotten her goody two shoes way behind on her road to sensuality. Recently, she posed seductively with Emraan Hashmi for the cover of a film glossy. She also makes quite a few bold statements in the interview. Like this one: “I’d like to dirty talk with a certain SRK!”. Of course, she isn’t speaking of Shahrukh Khan but her beau Siddharth Roy Kapoor. Perhaps all this boldness comes with the character she is playing, but what happened to the Indian woman image Vidya epitomised? Didn’t men and women like her because she was a heady mix of shyness and sexiness – something like the Lolita from Parineeta? We hope that once The Dirty Picture is over and done with, Vidya starts to cut down on the brazenness and bring in some restraint, coz that’s what made her fans go ooh la la in the first place! Don’t you think so?
