Is Vidya Balan wary of being labelled a serious actor?
After getting dirty in her last film, The Dirty Picture, Vidya Balan is set to do a sensuous item number for Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s home-production, Ferrari Ki Sawaari
Having a squeaky clean image for a very long time probably didn’t help Vidya Balan’s cause. Her dare-bare avatar as Silk Smitha, has given her more publicity and clout in Bollywood, than almost all her films put together. Her first film in 2012, Kahaani, is another woman-oriented film and is already getting her rave reviews, and that’s just for the trailer of the film. Kahaani will release mid-March and labels like ‘art-house’, ‘serious film’ are being thrown around. Apparently, one lesson that Vids has learned, thanks to Milan Luthria’s The Dirty Picture, is that, all the audience wants is – entertainment. According to popular perception, a film like Kahaani is far from entertainment, mainly because the lead protagonist is a pregnant woman, looking for the father of the baby she is carrying. There is no scope for punch-laden dialogues, item songs et al. Kahaani might go on to be looked up as Vidya’s best performance ever, but at the BO, we doubt if there would be even half the number of takers compared to her previous outing as the seductress. All through the promotions of The Dirty Picture, Vidya had said that she wouldn’t be doing any item numbers for any film, as she has done and shown it all (well, almost) but the news that’s just in, did surprise us. Vidya will be seen doing an item number in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s next production, Sharman Joshi-starrer, Ferrari Ki Sawari. While the details about the song, like how hot it is, what Vids is wearing (or not wearing), who is choreographing it etc is not known yet. All we know is that it will be sensuous! Wethinks, the curvaceous babe wants to undo any damage done to her popularity by her appearance in Sujoy Ghosh’s film, with a bomb of an item number. Let us know if you are looking forward to going ‘Ooh la la’ over Vidya all over again.
