Kai Po Che posters borrow blatantly from Rang De Basanti

There is an uncanny similarity between Abhishek Kapoor’s latest film and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s classic

Director Abhishek Kapoor’s latest movie Kai Po Che based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel is a coming of age tale of three friends from a small town, while Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s 2006 film Rang De Basanti was a patriotic coming of age story of three friends from India’s capital city Delhi. We thought that’s where the similarity ended. But there is more! The latest posters of the Sushant Singh Rajput, Raj Kumar Yadav and Amit Sadh starrer look totally inspired by the 2006 film Rang De Basanti.

We have seen several Bollywood movies copy posters of international films, including the most recent one – Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ramleela which takes its inspiration from American TV show Revenge. But this one’s just too close to home. Is Kapoor paying a tribute to the new age classic or did UTV (also the producers of the Aamir Khan, Siddharth, Kunal Kapoor and R Madhavan starrer RDB) decide to rehash their own magic formula?
