After Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan refused the project, the My Friend Pinto actor bags it
My Friend Pinto didn’t exactly set cash registers ringing, but Kalki Koechlin has already signed her next film. She will now play the female lead in the Vishal Bhardwaj-produced Daayan. The actor has done more offbeat films than mainstream ones so far and Daayan is no exception. It’s a supernatural thriller, what Kalki calls, “kind of a magical film”. “(Daayan) is a Kanan Iyer film. Vishal Bhardwaj is producing and writing it. It is not horror (film), but a supernatural mystery,” she said. We do wonder what kind of a role it is, as two female actors have refused the project before her. We heard that Rani Mukerji had her own reasons for not signing Daayan, but Vidya Balan reportedly didn’t do so as she didn’t want to star in a hero-centric film after doing heroine-centric films The Dirty Picture and Kahaani.
While Daayan is good news for Kalki’s fans, they are going to be disappointed with one aspect of her other film, Shanghai. Abhay Deol is her co-star in Shanghai, but they hardly have any scenes together. “I play Shalini, a passionate social activist. In Shanghai, me and Abhay are not together…we are not paired opposite each other. Our tracks in the film are different so we are not exactly working together,” she said. Those who were hoping that Kalki and Abhay will recreate their Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara magic will have to wait a little longer.
