On her 30th birthday, Dev.D actor Kalki Koechlin seems to be in a great space, both personally and professionally
Born on January 10, 1983 , Kalki Koechlin has had a rather interesting journey in life compared to other Bollywood actors. Born to French parents who’d shifted to Pondicherry in India, Kalki has had a wholesome upbringing. The actor did her schooling in Ooty, where she was born, and then took off to study drama and theatre in the UK. There, she dabbled in theatre for a few years before deciding to come back to India and try her luck in B-town.
And it is B-town that has been lucky to have her instead, as she proved to be a master of her craft, playing the role of a prostitute in Anurag Kashyap’s 2009 blockbuster film Dev.D. She won the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actor for Dev.D, and went on to score another nomination for Zoya Akhtar’s 2011 hit film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Besides acting in movies, Kalki has been involved in theatre as well; she successfully wrote and acted in the play, The Skeleton Woman.
A happy chapter of her life began when she married director and fellow creative soul, Anurag Kashyap, in 2011. She went on to write the critically acclaimed thriller That Girl in Yellow Boots. And now, since her debut in 2009, Kalki has been one of the most sought-after performance-based actors in Bollywood, and has a slew of interesting films lined up for release including Ayan Mukerji’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Vishal Bhardwaj’s Ek Thi Daayan.
