The filmmaker is gearing up to take his Hrithik Roshan-Sanjay Dutt-starrer to the southern audiences
Karan Johar has stated repeatedly that he remade Agneepath for his father. The original Agneepath, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Mithun Chakraborty and produced by Yash Johar, grew into a cult film, but flopped at the box office. The film was close to Yashji’s heart and he was reportedly devastated when it didn’t do well. Naturally, both the films are close to Karan’s heart too, so it was quite a surprise when we heard that he was in talks with southern film producers to remake Agneepath in their languages. Karan signing over remake rights of a film like Agneepath? It didn’t seem right. Now we hear that this is, in fact, not the whole story.
Karan is planning to co-produce the film with a southern producer. The South remake of Agneepath will mark Dharma Productions’ foray into the lucrative markets of South India. Now that we can believe. Talks are already on for a partnership deal and Karan has great plans of casting top actors for the roles of Vijay, Kancha and Kaali. What is yet unclear is the language in which the film will be remade. Will Karan choose to make a Tamil version first? Or will it be Telugu? Kannada or Malayalam? We’ll let you know as soon as we do!
