Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Mallika Sherawat: Why are B-town babes shying away from bold films?

The three stunning divas politely turned down Tigmanshu Dhulia’s offer to play the title role – Begum Samru, as the script reportedly demanded ample skin show

Tigmanshu Dhulia may be going great guns but his struggle to cast the female lead for his ambitious project Begum Samru continues. After Bullett Raja, Dhulia is looking forward to Begum Samru for which the filmmaker had approached both Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor to play the lead protagonist. However, the gorgeous ladies politely turned down the filmmaker’s offer. Reports say the reason for them saying no was the script which is high on semi-nudity and love-making scenes.

“The role requires lot of body exposure from its heroine. I approached Rani. She loved the script but declined the offer because of nudity. Kareena too said no for the same reason,” said Tigmanshu and adds, “The film is set in the 1840s and will be based on a Hindi novel. The story is a different take on Umrao Jaan. The lead actor will be a begum, not a nautch girl. The begum woos four men before falling in love with one of them and that’s where the trouble begins.” In fact, we are told Dhulia wrote the script keeping the Aiyyaa actor in mind.

A friend close to the Bullett Raja filmmaker also insists that he had also approached Mallika Sherawat but she’s busy with her show The Bachelorette India – Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika. It’s learnt that Tigmanshu is now planning to turn Begum Samru into an international project and is contemplating to cast a top Hollywood actor for the title role. We wonder which actor will finally agree to play the challenging character! Any guesses?
