The Ek Tha Tiger gal will turn singer before her close rival does

If all goes as planned, Katrina Kaif will turn singer before Priyanka Chopra. We say ‘if’, because the best laid plans of mice and women can go awry, as PC herself will tell you. The Desi girl was the first to announce her plans to sing professionally. Hey, she even flew to the US to record an album! It was a huge moment for her when she bagged a song in the Zanjeer remake. Katrina was supposed to sing a song in Dhoom: 3, which would release long after PC’s film. Everything seemed hunky dory, but now Kat is all set to steal the thunder from Piggy Chops. We hear that the Chikni chameli babe has agreed to sing a song in the as-yet-untitled Yash Chopra film. The movie is slated to release this Diwali, while the Zanjeer remake is nowhere near completion. Kat’s song will definitely hit the shelves first and Priyanka will have to find ways to beat her success.

And a success it will definitely be; all the omens are positive. The song is being composed by AR Rahman and written by Gulzar. That greatly reduces the chances of it being a flop. Kat had earlier worked with Rahman on a CD of nursery rhymes and has a good working relationship with him. Plus, regardless of whether she does a good job or not, the curiosity value is enough to send the album’s sales figures soaring. Poor Priyanka can now only take heart from one fact – that Kareena Kapoor beat Katrina to the post when she sang a song in Dev, way back in 2004. Even if it makes Priyanka the third female actor in her generation to turn singer, at least it doesn’t make Kat the first!
