Ever wondered how did these actors made a shift from their struggling stage to bagging lead roles in films made by massive production houses. Read on to find out.
May can rightly be called as the month of newcomers. Three big banner films namely Sajid Nadiadwala’s Heropanti, Ekta Kapoor’s Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi and Vishesh Film’s CityLights is all set to hit the theatres this month. One common thing in all these films is casting of fresh faces for lead female roles.
Simran Kaur Mundi from Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi, Kriti Sanon from Heropanti and Patralekha from CityLights have all been models and have done several commercials before venturing into films. Three faces which the casting directors love have had an interesting struggle in the film industry. While Kriti had an engineering degree for back up, Patralekha had no other option except films. We bring to you three exclusive stories of our stars of tomorrow.
Simran Kaur Mundi – The actor was born in Mumbai and has done her schooling and college from Indore. When the Ekta Kapoor’s discovery came back to Mumbai she was initially working as a guest relationship executive with a leading theatre brand. When people from Miss India pageant spotted her, they asked her to participate in their beauty pageant. She had plans to do MBA but that clearly didn’t happen because the model turned actor won Femina Miss India Universe in 2008. Since then she had been modeling for big brands and designers. While modeling she also did a Hindi film in 2011 called Jo Hum Chahein. Unfortunately the film did not work, so this pretty actor went back to modeling. It was after a while she auditioned for Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi and was selected for the role. She was called one day before the shoot began. As they say, hard work pays, now her film is all set to release on May 30 with much grandeur and pomp. Fascinating journey indeed, hai na?
Kriti Sanon – While this southern beauty was doing her engineering, she also decided to try her hand at modeling. She began with a few TV commercials. While shooting for the ads, she began to enjoy the entire process of filmmaking and of being in front of the camera. Kriti told her parents about her acting plans. Though they were a little hesitant, they let Kriti chase her dreams on one condition that while she was nurturing her passion, she also had to prepare for MBA. The doting daughter obliged her parents’ wishes and cleared her GMAT exams with flying colors. While the Tiger Shroff’s co-star was doing well in her modeling career, she was offered a film down south called 1: Nenokkadine with South superstar Mahesh Babu. Within months of signing that film, this bubbly actor was also offered Heropanti. She started filming for both the movies simultaneously.
Patralekha – The dusky actor who is making her Bollywood debut with CityLights opposite National award winning actor Rajkummar Rao is from Shillong and has done her college in Mumbai. While she was studying, Patralekha began to do ads. Her first ad was with BR Chopra’s production house. The actor gradually began to gain much more attention with her renowned mobile network company ad. In this ad we see Patralekha show her new tattoo to her mother, who looks back at her in dismay. Though the actor tried her hand at films, she couldn’t manage to gain confidence to face the camera in her college days. So after her graduation, Rajkummar Rao’s girlfriend took a sabbatical of two years and learnt acting from Barry John. It was after a while that she auditioned for CityLights and was selected by the makers. Indeed Patralekha is a destiny’s child.
