Kunal Khemu reveals why Go Goa Gone is different

The makers of the movie are excited about introducing a new genre called ‘zom-com’ to Bollywood. And we dig in to find out how ‘new’ it actually is – and will it really work?

The buzz about the Kunal Khemu-Vir Das-Anand Tiwari starrer Go Goa Gone has been floating around B-town for a while now. And now we know that it’s a movie that features zombies, maybe like the ones the Ramsay Brothers used in their classic horror movies. Then again, maybe not.

Khemu insists that here the zombies a tad-bit different, with their funny bones intact. Ah! But weren’t they funny in the Ramsay movies too, we wonder with our tongues firmly in our cheeks. And while we hope those living dead from Purani Haveli or other such movies weren’t an inspiration for GGG – coz that would be such a disaster, no? – we wonder whatever made the filmmakers think up this eerie twist! “About three years ago we started writing an action comedy together. Then one day we thought, how would it be if we removed the criminals in this film and replaced them with zombies?,” Kunal says, revealing what led to the making Go Goa Gone, being directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK of Shor fame, slated to be released early next year.

What’s more, we are told that when the makers first came up with the idea of this zom-com, they realised that not many people know what a ‘zombie’ is. Oops! “We didn’t know if anyone would be interested in making a film like that,” Kunal said. It was then that Saif Ali Khan’s Illuminati Films came to Go Goa Gone’s rescue and decided to produce it. And now Khemu thinks that will help them cash in on the Khan’s name and fame too. Hehe…smart move!

Even so, we wonder about how these zombies could actually create the required buzz. Tell us, readers – are you excited about watching zombies making you laugh on the big screen?
